Kara Walker Take Two
Crystal, Lashere and Jamerah kicked off the Kara Walker project by taking the pictures, getting the bulletin board paper, uploading/choosing pictures, tracing, cutting out, hanging!! I was really impressed. They were so independent that I think they could this project without my help.
Two years ago, we did 8th grade silhouettes. This year we took pictures of students from every grade including teachers and panthers.
Below is Shaniaya, Jaron and Crystal is one singingand
Below is 1st graders Letina and Kristen
Below are many silhouettes including Mr. Brame, Triniti, Lorraine, Zyshon
Below is a panther darting out the door
Below is Contrail, Lashamere, and others
The figures make "2012" The 8th Graders made this by lying on the floor, I was impressed!

April is making half the number 2 below
Kenya and Allonte make a zero
Iyana and Darneisha make a zero as well
below are silhouettes making an eye...the music notes are the eye lashes, heart pupil, the baloon is the hair, can you see it? This was originally by chance but the students worked with it after Kenya saw an eye.

1st Floor= Through the seasons
Many times are art projects are for the current season, so I dedicated the 1st floor to our seasonal artwork.
During Autumn we made pastel pumpkins, giant leafs, owls, paper mache pumpkins, and our "day of the dead" skulls.
During Winter we had made nutcrackers, snowman portraits, and our "Cold hands/warm heart" collages.
The PreK and K students each made a flower to add to our blooming spring tree. They just glued different color circles together, starting with biggest and getting smaller and smaller.
We designed suns/flowers using the different types of lines. And the fireworks were a successful sub lesson. Everyone made impressive fireworks during that day I was out.

2nd Floor=Art History
2nd floor was dedicated to our projects dealing with Art History. The PreK made the watercolor letters using masking tape, with the help of the 8th graders. The Kindergarden Kandinsky concentric circles are on this wall as well as come projects on surrealism....
The 7th graders Miro project- more surrealism
4th and 5th graders Picasso Guitars
6th grades "great waves"

Ndebele in the building
We turned the 3rd floor into an Ndebele village. We finally got around to finishing and hanging our Ndebele houses. It was a school-side project we did in beginning of year. 6th graders did black outline, 3-5th grade painted them in, and 7th and 8th graders touched them up. School-wide projects can be tricky because many students don't want people painting over their work, but it is good practice of teamwork.
The 7th graders had done their own miniature house design and K and 1st graders did Ndebele chickens displayed above the houses.

Lollipop Trees
Somehow the trees got the name "lollipop trees" because of the bright colors and round shape, and it stuck. The 8th graders worked on decorated the lollipop trees. These two students forgot to write their initials, so I will have to post artist names later.
Tree by Darneisha? maybe?

Eryn, wrong house! ;-) Eryn kept getting the other pink house mixed up with hers. Her house has the pink-ish roof.
Brian's house, I love his color choices.

Rainy Days
Mural-making was post-poned a few days due to weather. This is what happened when you start painting and it started to rain: Fortunately only one class had started to paint when it started to rain.
