Colorful People, Colorful Portraits

We started our study of color with drawing self-portraits. Each group colored their face in with only two colors depending on the color of their group. Together they make the rainbow, all the colors in the color wheel. (More pictures to be posted soon: Remember click for close up)

Give these 8th graders a HAND!!

The 8th graders wrapped their hands up with striped paper! ;-) Not true, but they were able to make it look like that using just a pencil and white piece of paper.

Lines are Roaring

This year, we focused on using all the different types of lines in the Lion's Mane. Line and Lion are homophones (same sound different meaning). Can you think of any other homophones?

Op Art, did we trick your eye?

Optical Art, known as OP art, is art that tricks the eye. Does our artwork look like it is moving? Does it look 3-D? Tricking the eye is not an easy task, so some students just made an awesome looking design using curved lines! That is fine with me, what matters most to me, is that YOU are happy with your completed project. Your artwork demonstrates your style and work ethic in all aspects of life, not just art class. I was sad to see students give up so easily with this project, but happy to see those who did above and beyond what I imagined! Thank you to everyone who tried their best :-)

Fernwood meets Harold

After reading the book "Harold and the Purple Crayon", K and 1st graders put their own purple crayon into action. Some of the students had already met Harold from the HBO family series about Harold and his crayon. I didn't know about the show until the students TAUGHT ME :-) Here is a link to the show: HBO Harold

Line Mania!!

Lines are the most basic element of art, but our lines are not very basic! We combined over 6 types of lines and made them colorful and labeled.

Extra Credit

Some Students asked about extra credit and my response is "YES, I accept extra credit year-round." You have three options: 1) You can also choose one of your favorite Quick Draws and turn it into a finished work of art. Just draw it bigger and add color!

2) Do artwork using your computer. If you look at my July 18th posting, there are websites listed.

Op Art Directions and Some Successes!

The Upper Grades are making Op Art ("op" is short for "optical" relating to the eye). Optical Art tricks the eye.
