GIANT Penguin Eggs

Ms. Appiah took on a GIANT penguin project. Her class paper maches their eggs during art class...and after school thanks to Edyn, Eryn, Jaye, Damari, and Asjah. I need to add pictures of the eggs with the giant penguins. They don't look like eggs without their mother penguins!

1st and 2nd graders' Magic Carpets

1st and 2nd graders practiced drawing wavy, zig-zag and broken lines while dreaming up places they would fly on their magic carpets. They also learned out of double knot and earned beads whenever they got it right! Many students did not want to go far on their magic carpets. Six Flags, Chuckie Cheese, and the movies were all popular destinations.

Photo Permission Slips

I finally got a list of students who turned in their photo permission slips. This means I can post pictures of everyone making artwork during class too. I can also link your artwork to your picture. Here are some students who always give 100% effort during art class. It shows, because their artwork has been chosen to be posted more than once and I only pick my favorite 5 or 6 pieces from each project to post. Of course, they also turned in their photo form. Our Snowy Day

After experiencing our own very snowy day (Chicago's Blizzard of 2011!), the Kindergardeners- 2nd graders made artwork inspired by Ezra Jack Keat's "The Snowy Day". I supplied them with the cut-out of Peter in 3 different poses. They painted the snow and used snowflake stamps.

Cookie Cutter Clay Ornaments

The lower graders got their hands messy making their clay ornaments. They mixed 2 cups of flour, with one cup salt and one cup water, and ta-da, they made clay. You probably have the ingredients in your cupboard right now.
It is easy! After you make the clay, pat it down flat and use a cookie cutter to make the shape. Use a straw to point a hole at the top. Set aside to dry for a week.

Artwork by Akilah and Janeia (Art Club students also made clay- Akilah used a fork on her gingerbread man and Janeia decided not to use the cookie cutters and sculpted the thumbs up, reindeer and that little bow!)
Makayla made great texture on her ornaments! (texture= look and feel of the fork markings)

Next paint and add fun stuff.

Set aside to dry for a day.
Two on the Left by De'yannah, Kiara did the bell and Chyna did the bear, nice work!
