Kara Walker Take Two

 Crystal, Lashere and Jamerah kicked off the Kara Walker project by taking the pictures, getting the bulletin board paper, uploading/choosing pictures, tracing, cutting out, hanging!!  I was really impressed.  They were so independent that I think they could this project without my help. 

Two years ago, we did 8th grade silhouettes.  This year we took pictures of students from every grade including teachers and panthers.

below are silhouettes making an eye...the music notes are the eye lashes, heart pupil, the baloon is the hair, can you see it?  This was originally by chance but the students worked with it after Kenya saw an eye.

Portrait Collages (Art Museum project)

Part of our field trip was doing an art project...Portrait collages using reproductions of artwork from the Chicago Art Museum.

No name! I think this one would be even cooler if the grapes were part of his beard. You might of noticed...the food clippings were very popular.

Another no-name :-( But I love the lightning behind the ice cream and the butterfly used as the bust.

Apology and Patterned Paper

Some projects I have been really into this year is drawing into wet paint, so much fun! And Printmaking, although we are still very much in the experimenting stages.

We enjoyed making painted patterned paper using cut cardboard, stamps, anything really. 4th grade used cool colors on day, warm the next week. Here are my favorites:

Printmaking with Acrylic paints= FAIL, the paint dries too quickly
However, the dried paint looked great with Triniti's creation. A++ to her for remembering to reverse the Words
Chloe's minimalist painting that she did one day when she had extra time. This painting would love really nice in a living room.

Our Great Waves

6th graders have been studying different types of wavy and curved lines. Also with it being hurricane season, we re-created "The Great Wave", one of the most recognizable works of art from Japan. They also recently practiced drawing trees using spiral lines, so some students chose to have trees growing in their water. As always I was impressed with the variety of styles.
