Floral Laurel

Pablo Picasso’s Portraits and Profiles!

3-5th graders learned about portraits done by Pablo Picasso. Picasso liked to show the side-view of the face, called a profile, and the face from the front view in the same painting. Compare our portraits to his and you can see we did the same thing!

Make Room for Dr. Seuss

4th and 5th graders made a room inspired by Dr. Seuss's "Cat in the Hat" drawings, such as the fish, dress, ball, green eggs, cake, rake, and anything they wanted! They used a vanishing point to make the shape of their room. They did some great details, remember to click on image for close-up.

We Heart Art

Happy Valentine's Day! The 4th and 5th graders made Heart Designs in celebration. We looked at the artwork of Jim Dine, who hearts heart art. They were also introduced to Picasso's cubism because they will be doing Picasso Portraits next, stay tuned! They used rulers to break up their hearts and added patterns.

Mocking Mona

The 4th graders learned about how the "Mona Lisa" is the most recognized painting in the whole world! Because of that, it is often poked fun at with other famous artists, advertisements, t-shirts, everywhere, but only with good humor of course!

Fernwood architects hired to design a skyscraper

The 4th-6th grade students are future architects hired to design a skyscraper to be built in 2121. Technology will be advanced, so their design could be as futuristic as they please. Their task was to draw the new skyscraper that will highlight the Chicago skyline. An architect came to class to help them with their designs.
